Acts 1:1-4

ACTS STUDY DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. What did you learn from our study of Acts 1:1-4 on Sunday? Are there any parts of Acts that have previously confused you? What excites you about this study going forward?

  2. Who wrote Acts and what do we know about him from Colossians 4:14 and 2 Tim 4:11?

  3. What were some of Luke’s motives in writing Luke-Acts according to Luke 1:1-3? If he wrote so that Theophilus would have certainty about what he had been taught regarding Jesus, what does that mean for us as we study Acts?

  4. What is the significance of the phrase “all that Jesus began to do and teach” in Acts 1:1 and what does it imply about what we are going to study in Acts?

  5. Why is it so important for us to see and know that Jesus’ works and word don’t end in the Gospels or with his ascension? How does this set Christianity apart from all other world religions?

  6. How does Jesus continue to “do and teach” today? What did Jesus promise in John 14:16-18 (see also John 14:26, 15:26, 16:7 and 13) and what does John 14:17b-18 tell us about how Jesus continues to “do and teach” today? If Jesus continues to work through his Spirit in gospel-transformed believers what does that mean for us here and now in God’s redemptive storyline?

  7. How can we nudge and encourage one another toward further participation in Jesus’ ongoing work and God’s redemptive story?
