Acts 1:20-26
ACTS STUDY DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
What did you learn from our study of Acts 1:20-26?
Based on Acts 1:21-22a and 22b, what are the two primary qualifications the apostles looked for in a replacement for Judas (cf. Acts 2:32, 10:40-42, Mk 3:14)? What qualifications does Paul point to in defending his role as an apostle (cf. Acts 26:15-16; 1 Cor 15:7-11, Gal 1:1)? Why are these qualifications so important and how do they encourage you as you read the Bible, particularly the New Testament texts that many of these apostles wrote?
What methods do you use in making difficult decisions? What characteristics of biblical decision- making do you observe in Acts 1:12-19? What additional characteristics appear in verses 20-26? Taken together, how do these verses provide wisdom for us when making difficult decisions?
In verse 24, the apostles don’t simply make a decision and ask Jesus to bless their decision; they look to him to make the decision, reveal his will, and guide their actions. Why is that significant? What do we learn about prayer, waiting, and acting from the apostles in Acts 1:20-26, especially verse 24?
Why don’t Christians cast lots when making decisions today? What greater gift are we given, where does he dwell, and what is one of his primary roles according to John 14:16-17, 26, and 16:13-14? Why is this such good news (cf. Eph 1:13-14)? As a result, what does Paul encourage us to do in Galatians 5:25?
Are there any big decisions looming in your life where we can use the wisdom of Acts 1:12-26 and do that together in gospel community?
