Acts 8:1-8

ACTS STUDY

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. What caught your attention, encouraged, or challenged you from our study of Acts 8:1-8 on Sunday? What were some of your key take aways from the text?

  2. What do we learn about Saul from Acts 8:1-3, 22:4-5, and 26:9-11? What does Paul later say about himself and God’s grace in 1 Timothy 1:12-16? Can you resonate with Paul? What comfort, encouragement and hope do you receive from seeing Paul’s past and God’s grace in his life?

  3. What dark picture does Acts 8:1-3 paint? Despite the great darkness and persecution of Acts 8:1-3, what happened to the gospel of Jesus Christ based on Acts 8:4 and 11:19? Why is this so amazing? Though we often fear and avoid it, what do we learn about suffering and persecution from this text?

  4. Why is it important for us to remember Acts 1:8 when we read Acts 8:1-8? How does it change the way we read Acts 8:1-8?

  5. Who was it that was scattered and went about preaching (lit. good newsing) according to Acts 8:3 & 4? What do we learn about evangelism from the scattered disciples and Philip in Acts 8:4-8?

  6. Having already suffered loss and still facing serious threat, what does their continued good newsing say about how they viewed the gospel? How does this encourage, convict, or challenge you?

  7. Why is it so surprising that Philip, a Jew, is sharing the gospel in Samaria based on John 4:4 and Luke 9:52-56? What do we learn about the power of the gospel from Philip going to Samaria (cf. Eph 2:13-22, 1 Peter 2:11-13)?

  8. What attitudes, actions, or affections need to change as a result of our study?
