Acts 21:1-16

ACTS STUDY DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. What were your biggest takeaways from our study of Acts 21:1-16?

  2. What does Paul say and know according to Acts 20:22-23? How does he respond in Acts 20:24, and

    why is that so remarkable?

  3. If you received a message similar to Paul's, how would you respond? What is the response of the disciples in Tyre, according to Acts 21:4 and 12, to the message of the Holy Spirit that Paul would be arrested in Jerusalem? Why do you think they responded this way?

  4. Among other things, the response by the disciples in Acts 21:4 and 12 reveals our personal conflict with suffering. However, consider what happens on the other side of Paul’s arrest and imprisonment: He had audiences with tribunes, the whole Jerusalem city council of Sadducees and Pharisees, Governors Felix and Festus, King Agrippa, and possibly Caeser. During his imprisonment, he wrote the letters of Ephesians, Colossians, Philippians, and Philemon, some suggest 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus also, and he equipped and encouraged believers and evangelized the lost in Rome. What do we learn from this about suffering and affliction in the hands of God?

  5. Paul, the disciples, Luke, Agabus, and the reader know Paul is going to be arrested in Jerusalem, and yet how does Paul respond (cf. Acts 20:23 and 21:13)? What is Luke teaching us about Paul and those who follow Jesus? How do Luke and the rest of the disciples finally respond in Acts 21:14, and what can we learn from it?

  6. Are there any areas of your life now where you might need to respond, “Let the will of the Lord be done?” How is that response similar to what Paul said and did in Acts 20:32? Why is responding in these ways so difficult?

  7. What do we learn about Jesus in Luke 9:51-53? How is the response of the disciples in Tyre similar to Peter in Matthew 21:16-23 and what do you think Luke is trying to teach us through this story about Paul?

  8. What did you find helpful and challenging, and what will you take away and apply this week from our study in Acts 21:1-16?
