Acts 27

Due to complications with our system on Sunday (2/09), we were unable to record Kyle Beshear’s sermon on Acts 27. Below is Neal Ledbetter’s sermon on the same passage taught at the Fairhope campus.

ACTS STUDY DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. In Acts 27, Luke recounts Paul’s voyage to Rome in intricate detail. What can we learn from this chapter about God’s care and protection? What can we learn about his promises and plans?

  2. Have you ever been in a situation where all seemed hopeless, and what did you learn about God?

  3. What do you notice about Paul’s actions and attitude throughout his sea voyage to Rome in Acts 27 (cf. Acts 27:9-10, 21-26)?

  4. Read Acts 1:8, 9:15, 18:9-10, 23:11, and 27:24. What does the truth of God’s word do for Paul in the middle of the trials and storms he faces? If it is vital for us to cling to God’s promises in every season, what are some ways we can tangibly do that?

  5. Paul is not alone in the darkness of this storm. How do we know that from the text (cf. Acts 27:2-3 and Acts 27:23? In addition to God's spiritual presence, why is God's physical presence in Christian friends so vital and important?

  6. How can we be good friends to one another in trials? What do you think is necessary in gospel-centered friendship during hard times?

  7. To the discouraged and disheartened onboard, Paul says twice to “take heart.”The phrase means “be encouraged.” How can Paul say be encouraged in such dark times and be so confident and sure?

  8. What will you take away and apply from our study of this chapter?
