Acts 24

ACTS STUDY DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. What did you find encouraging and helpful in our study of Acts 24:1-17?

  2. Paul is falsely accused, condemned, slandered, and attacked. And yet, what seems to be his attitude and demeanor in this text? How does he treat his accusers? How is it that Paul can face such an attack? What things can we see in the text that contribute to his hope and confidence (cf. Acts 23:11, 24:11-13, and then 14-15)?

  3. Paul counters their false accusations with evidence, but where does his real hope lie, according to Acts 24:14-15? How do God’s word and the resurrection of the just and unjust give Paul hope and freedom during these dark circumstances? How might that provide us with hope and freedom as we face difficulties and adversity in life?

  4. If you were falsely accused and left in prison for years, how might you feel, and what might you do as day after day came and went? How does Paul view his imprisonment (cf. Philemon 1, 9, and 13 and Eph 6:20)? Writing from prison to the church at Colossae, what does he ask them to pray (cf. Col 4:3-4), and why is it so unique and interesting (i.e., what does he not ask them to pray)? What does Paul do with his opportunity before Governor Felix (cf. Acts 24:24-27) and with those he encounters in prison (Philemon 10)?

  5. Do you regularly see your circumstances as gospel opportunities? Why or why not? How can we help one another see our circumstances as gospel opportunities?

  6. If Jesus stood with you and instructed you (cf. Acts 23:11), how would that change your perspective on your circumstances? Might this be one reason why Paul wrote Colossians 3:15-17? How can we put these verses into practice together?

  7. What will you take away and apply to your life from studying Acts 24?
