Get Rid of Your Junk & Change a Life

Everybody has an old cell phone collecting dust somewhere in their closet or drawer or forgotten in an old purse. Many men have the infamous “plastic tub of cords” that no one remembers what they go to anymore, but you’re scared to throw it away just in case you might need it someday. Or maybe you’re like us and have a huge box tv in the outside shed and you just don’t know what to do with it.

This Saturday, Mars Hill Church is partnering with Ransom Recycling which is an incredible ministry that takes our antiquated electronic junk and is literally transforming lives. Ransom Recycling was born out of the need to provide steady work for men who have completed Ransom ReProgram (please click HERE and read a brief summary of this absolutely incredible job-training program for people in our community).

Brad Hill went out to the Ransom Recycling workshop earlier this week and saw firsthand the important work happening within this ministry. He heard from workers who spoke emphatically about how this program changed them. One man told Brad that “he felt like he mattered now.” That’s so powerful. And such a door to sharing the gospel. The same man also spoke of how this work enabled him to set a better example for his son. This is what breaking the cycle looks like.

In the workshop, these workers take all the components out of everything. Every part is sorted and re-used from the plastic to the tiniest of wires. 104 tons of electronic waste has been processed by this program in 2019 alone. And you can help them do even more.

Starting at 9am, Saturday, December 14, Ransom Recycling will have a huge dump bin in front of the front entrance of Mars Hill Church- Mobile campus. They will be there until about 3:30pm and will not only be happy to receive your old electronics but will also be happy to share more about this recycling program.

Anything with a cord is accepted. Please note that those old box televisions have mercury, cadmium, and other potentially hazardous materials when dis-assembling. To handle these materials safely, extra supplies are necessary, so when dropping off old box televisions, a $20 donation is requested.
